The threats facing Wallum have largely stemmed from a planning system that needs to have more consideration of the current climate conditions and more input of First Nations knowledge. Without this, it is not meeting the needs of the community or effectively supporting the environment.

Following the Portfolio Committee No. 7 inquiry into the NSW planning system and the effects of climate change on the environment and communities, the report was tabled in the Legislative Council on November 19, 2024. The government is now reviewing the report and its recommendations.

A response to the final report is expected on February 19, 2025.
